The cosmopolitan city of Rota with approx. 24.000 residents, closed to the north by the bay of Cadiz, is linked ot the capital by daily buses. As well as its beautiful beaches (La Costilla,4 km in length, Punta Candor, surrounded by pine trees, and the Almadraba), the constanct activity in the streets, discos, bars and restaurants of all nationalities, makes it an attractive tourist location. Interesting tourist sites: Castillo de Luna (13th century), Iglesia Parroquial de Rota (6th century with a a large art collection) and the baroque churches of San Juan Bautista and San Roque. Festivals: Semana Santa de Rota, in April, Feria de Primavera.
